I’m researching the history of sheep farming in Narita, where the Imperial Ranch was located.
I fly to Hokkaido, the home of livestock breeding, to conduct interviews for a book I’m writing. I sometimes take sweet bean jelly, a Narita specialty, as a gift to my interviewees.
On one occasion, I put the sweet bean jelly in a paper bag and stowed it in the plane’s overhead bin along with my bag. When I was getting off the plane, I had completely forgotten that I had bought sweet bean jelly and was just about to take my bag and get off when I saw a paper bag a short distance away reflected in Komy’s bin mirror and realized that I had forgotten it. At that time, it must have slid away from the bag in the bin during the flight. The mirror helped me to see a wider area. Since then, I’ve been using the mirror to check visually.
