I’m Mayumi Suzuki, a flight attendant for Air China.
I’m familiar with Komy’s mirrors. As part of my training after being recruited, I was taught to always check the overheads (my company’s name for the overhead baggage lockers) before and after passengers embark and disembark. It helps ensure security and enables us to check for any belongings that may have been left behind, even though mirrors are there. Ever since I started my cabin duties, I’ve always performed visual inspections. Even my management level (Phoenix) instructors, who are among our company’s top 3% of flight attendants, advise us never to forget to carry out these inspections. However, my colleagues and I believe that checking the overheads by placing a foot on the step next to the seat is quicker when also using the mirror. A quick visual inspection is enough if we see nothing in the mirror. But if we see something in the mirror, we reach out and remove it. The mirrors are very useful because, without them, I would have to crane my neck every time I take a good look around the entire space. Many Chinese passengers shop a lot in the airport’s duty-free areas. Since they stow all their purchases in the overheads, they often leave things behind. Mirrors are essential when it comes to locating forgotten items quickly.
